How it's calculated

Section score = (Right × marks per question) − (Wrong × penalty) Total = sum of sections

Unattempted questions score zero. Fractions are kept exact and the total is rounded once, to two decimals.

Estimate only. Official results, marks and eligibility are decided by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. Verify on the official website.

Worked example: Office Assistant: Preliminary Examination

Reasoning: 32 right, 4 wrong; Numerical Ability: 32 right, 4 wrong. Total: 62 out of 80.

  • Count right and wrong answers from the official answer key for a reliable score.
  • Officers Scale-II and Scale-III sit a Single Level Examination instead of a Preliminary and Main exam; its structure is not covered here.
  • IBPS does not print a pay scale for RRB posts in this notification, so this site shows no RRB salary figure.

What are the total marks in Office Assistant: Preliminary Examination?

80 marks: Reasoning (40 questions), Numerical Ability (40 questions).

Is an unattempted question marked negatively?

No. Only wrong answers carry a penalty. A question left blank scores zero.

How do I count my right and wrong answers?

Compare your responses with the official answer key published by the exam body. Count only the questions you marked: those matching the key are right, the rest are wrong.

How much is deducted for a wrong answer in IBPS RRB?

A quarter of the marks assigned to that question, in the Preliminary, Main and Single Level examinations alike. In the Main exam the tests are not all worth 1 mark a question, so the penalty is 0.3125 for Reasoning and Numerical Ability or Quantitative Aptitude, 0.25 for General Awareness and the language paper, and 0.125 for Computer Knowledge. A blank answer costs nothing.

Do Preliminary marks count towards selection?

No. The Preliminary exam only decides who sits the Main exam. For Office Assistants, provisional allotment is made on the Main exam marks and the vacancies reported by each RRB; for Officer Scale-I, the Main exam decides who is called for interview.

Should I take the English or the Hindi paper?

Either. The Main exam has a 40-question language test and the notification lets you choose English or Hindi; both carry 40 marks. Choose the one you read fastest.

Is there a sectional cut-off in IBPS RRB?

Yes. In the Preliminary exam candidates must qualify in both tests, and in the Main exam a minimum score is needed in each test, at cut-offs decided by IBPS.
