Officer cadre and clerical cadre

Two career tracks, two pay scales, two age limits.

Bank recruitment splits in two. Probationary Officer posts at SBI and through IBPS are in the Junior Management Grade Scale I, where basic pay on joining is ₹56,480 and rises by fixed increments written into the scale itself. Clerical posts — Junior Associate at SBI, Customer Service Associate through IBPS — start at ₹26,730 on their own scale. Because a bank scale states every increment in advance, the salary calculators can show what a post pays in any year of service, not only on joining.

The age limits follow the cadre as well: 21–30 years for SBI PO and 20–28 years for SBI Clerk, each counted on the crucial date printed in that advertisement rather than on the day you apply. IBPS runs a common recruitment process, so a single notice covers many banks at once and the same limits apply across all of them.

All of these are two-stage exams, a Preliminary followed by a Main, and the Preliminary is only a filter: its marks do not count towards the final merit. A wrong answer costs one fourth of the marks for that question in most sections, but several Mains sections use a different fraction, which is why the marks calculators work section by section instead of applying one rate to the whole paper.
