How it's calculated
Universities publish a formula to turn CGPA into a percentage. To go the other way, the calculator reverses that formula: it subtracts the constant and divides by the multiplier, then rounds to 2 decimal places.
| University / board | Official rule | Reversed |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE Class 10 (CGPA grading, 2010–2017) | Percentage = 9.5 × CGPA | CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5 |
| Delhi University (UG, CBCS) | Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 | CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5 |
| Anna University (University Departments) | Percentage = CGPA × 10 | CGPA = Percentage ÷ 10 |
| VTU (2015, 2017, 2018 schemes) | Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 | CGPA = Percentage ÷ 10 + 0.75 |
| VTU (B.E./B.Tech 2022 regulations) | Percentage = CGPA × 10 | CGPA = Percentage ÷ 10 |
| GTU (Gujarat Technological University) | Percentage = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 | CGPA = Percentage ÷ 10 + 0.5 |
Not included: SPPU / Pune University (CBCS, 2019-20 onwards). Its rule uses a different equation for each grade, so a percentage cannot be reversed into one exact CGPA.
Estimate only. Official results, marks and eligibility are decided by your university or board. Verify on the official website.
Worked example: 75% in CGPA
| University / board | Working | CGPA |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE Class 10 (CGPA grading, 2010–2017) | 75 ÷ 9.5 | 7.89 |
| Delhi University (UG, CBCS) | 75 ÷ 9.5 | 7.89 |
| Anna University (University Departments) | 75 ÷ 10 | 7.50 |
| VTU (2015, 2017, 2018 schemes) | 75 ÷ 10 + 0.75 | 8.25 |
| VTU (B.E./B.Tech 2022 regulations) | 75 ÷ 10 | 7.50 |
| GTU (Gujarat Technological University) | 75 ÷ 10 + 0.5 | 8.00 |

Using a converted CGPA
A converted CGPA is only as good as the formula behind it. Use your own university's rule, and when an application asks for official figures, give the CGPA or percentage printed on your marksheet rather than a converted number.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a percentage into CGPA?
Run your university’s CGPA-to-percentage formula backwards. For example, if the rule is Percentage = CGPA × 9.5, then CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5. The formula must come from your own university.
What is 75% in CGPA?
It depends on the university: CBSE Class 10 (CGPA grading, 2010–2017): 7.89; Delhi University (UG, CBCS): 7.89; Anna University (University Departments): 7.50; VTU (2015, 2017, 2018 schemes): 8.25; VTU (B.E./B.Tech 2022 regulations): 7.50; GTU (Gujarat Technological University): 8.00.
Why is SPPU not in this calculator?
SPPU’s Circular No. 332/2020 uses a different equation for each grade, and near some grade boundaries two different CGPAs give the same percentage. So a percentage cannot be turned back into one exact CGPA. Use the CGPA to percentage calculator and SPPU’s grade table instead.
Can I get a CGPA above 10 or a percentage that the formula cannot give?
No. Each formula has a highest possible percentage (for example 95% for CGPA × 9.5, or 92.5% for VTU’s (CGPA − 0.75) × 10). A higher percentage has no CGPA under that rule, so the calculator tells you so.
I studied under a marks system. Should I convert my percentage to CGPA for a form?
Only if the form asks for it and names a rule. If it does not, enter your percentage as it appears on your marksheet and mention that it is a percentage. Converting with the wrong university’s formula can give a misleading figure.
