Your JEE Main percentile

Candidates ahead in your session

Enter your percentile.

Uses the 2026 candidate numbers. Not a rank prediction.

How it's calculated

Percentile = 100 × (candidates in the shift with raw score ≤ yours) ÷ (candidates in the shift) Candidates ahead ≈ (100 − percentile) ÷ 100 × candidates in the session

The first line is NTA's formula from the bulletin. Because the percentile is the share of candidates at or below you, the rest, (100 − percentile)%, scored higher. Applied to the number who appeared in your session, that gives about how many were ahead of you in that session. It is approximate because percentiles are worked out shift by shift and ties share a percentile.

Estimate only. Official results, marks and eligibility are decided by the National Testing Agency. Verify on the official website.

Worked example: 95 percentile in Session 1 (January 2026)

13,04,653 candidates appeared in Session 1 (January 2026). At the 95th percentile, (100 − 95)% = 5% of them scored higher: about 65,233 candidates. 95 is above the UR cut-off of 93.4123549, so it would have met the JEE Advanced 2026 percentile cut-off for every category.

Frequently asked questions

How does NTA calculate JEE Main percentile?

Percentile = 100 × (candidates in your shift with a raw score equal to or less than yours) ÷ (candidates who appeared in your shift). It is worked out to 7 decimal places. The topper of every shift gets 100.

Is percentile the same as percentage?

No. The bulletin says the percentile score is not the same as the percentage of marks. A percentile of 95 means 95% of your shift scored the same as or less than you, whatever your marks were.

Can I convert my percentile into an exact All India Rank?

No, not from official data. NTA ranks on the better of your two session scores across 15,38,468 unique candidates, and it does not publish a percentile-to-rank table. This tool shows how many candidates in your own session were ahead, which follows directly from the percentile formula.

What percentile was needed for JEE Advanced 2026?

93.4123549 for UR, and lower for other categories (table below). The bulletin also requires candidates to be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in Paper 1.

How are ties broken in JEE Main?

By NTA score in Mathematics, then Physics, then Chemistry, then fewer wrong answers relative to right ones (overall, then Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry). Candidates still tied after that get the same rank.
